I’m sure you’ve heard the news by now a sex worker was arrested for the murder of a Google executive. The man died back in November but the arrest was recent. The media is loving this story because the sex worker in question is rather interesting. Hes got wild hair and tattoos, shes a sugar baby and just in case you were wondering, yes, sugar babies are sex workers too. Though the media cant help but call her a hooker. She advertised on seeking arrangement.com Which any bonifide hooker will tell you is where cheap ass mother needy fuckers go to look for paid sex all the while fooling themselves into thinking is not really a pay for play situation. Its often a starting point for baby hos thinking “hey i can meet nice men spend sometime and have them pay my bills etc” only they come to find its often the guys who are too cheap to pay by they hour, or too needy to understand the “arrangement” part of the seeking arrangement and they move on to straight ahead escorting and put the sugar daddy bullshit behind them. I have friends who started in the biz that way.
It seems the women in question used the site as her main advertising source. She was arrested after a sting operation and she was lured back to silicon valley on a fake date and they slapped a pair of bracelets on her and are holding her on a bazillion dollars bail. Released to the media s that theres some kinda surveillance footage of her on the mans yacht finishing a glass of wine, stepping over his prone body and closing the curtains. They are saying she was the one who administered the heroin (did John Belushi’s death teach us nothing?!) of which he died of an over dose and that she didn’t call for help when she new he was either dead or dying. Thats the story. The media of course is calling her a high priced hooker because there was a grand involved. Though thats a good amount of cash if you are getting paid by the hour but this was likely for the date. Who knows how long that was supposed to be. Commenter’s to media story’s are all about her. Her worth, her hair, her tattoos, her past, her looks. High priced hooker who shoots heroin into client and left him for dead. How the poor man left behind a a wife and several children. How he worked for Google and what a tragedy it is.. for him.
No one and i mean no one media story that ive seen is talking about a Google executive with a yacht who likes to pay for sex and slam junk on his boat away from his wife and children for a good time. As if she forced him to do it. He didn’t have a choice. He didn’t decide to take his life into his hands and shoot junk. I’m really getting tied of the often predicable trend of these stories. How the evil hooker did this or that. What a whore she is, always with the subtext that she didn’t deserve whatever she was being paid to be their. While the man is always some tragic figure. Some hapless man who had no control over his own actions and no responsibility for his part in them.
I think they real story is why do these midlife criss dudes find it necessary to hire hookers and shoot heroin while their wives and children at home waiting for them. Seriously why? Rich white motherfuckers are the worst. I saw it over and over again when i was escorting man after man who was miserable in his life but refused to do anything to change it. He would do risky things in risky ways one of which was see escorts and many didn’t cover their tracks very well. Yeah, that was fun for me.
Instead we focus on her, the evil whore. I’m over it, so so over it.
A friend is trying to make a difference for sex workers. She along with others have created Adult Industry Truth. Take the survey and help get the truth out about sex work, your truth, the realties of sex work and how you feel about the work you do. Too many times other people try to speak our truth as sex workers, tell our stories in ways that furthers whatever agenda they have. Lets do something to about that.
From their site:
Our mission statement:
To help collect and distribute quality research about the diverse experiences of those involved in erotic labor and commercialized sex industries in the U.S.
About our surveys:
We want to create safe outlets for those involved in buying/selling sexual fantasy services or erotic labor to be able to share their experiences without fear of judgment or reprisal.
We honor and respect the differences between consensual sexual labor done by choice or due to circumstance, versus forced sexual labor, or trafficking.
We feel it is important to create data that includes a wide variety of experiences about the sex trade to help provide more accurate information, and understanding about the various erotic labor/adult service industries.
Aphrodite Companions was busted the other day. The husband and wife team who ran that NY/FLA escort agency are being held without bail on prostitution and money laundering charges. Agencies get busted all the time, which is why I write all the time about why you shouldn’t work for one as an escort and why its dangerous to use one as a client. Agencies have a habit of being busted because since they are illegal business they tend to bend the legal business rules yanno like paying their taxes and trying to hide their income. They look good to prosecutors who if they were going to bust an independent girl would only get a misdemeanor prostitution charge, those prosecutors who in a situation with an agency can all it an “International prostitution ring” bust people on promoting prostitution, pandering, money laundering, tax evasion and so much more. They stack up those charges
What makes this bust more interesting is they didn’t set up a meet with a client or escort and flip them or bust them. According to court papers recently unsealed done all “digitally”. They’ve got emails and they are also going to try to use TER reviews to help take this agency down. Yes, escort reviews. Yanno the things anyone can write and where any anonymous person can say anything about any one. It will be a long haul for the state to prove anything with reviews ( hearsay conjecture made up i made her cum 5 times penthouse story letters) but they will try. Who knows whats in the emails, I’m guessing the agency owners said shit they should have. Got lazy or careless. It was a year-long investigation and to my mind the worst thing that came out of it wasn’t that these questionable people got busted (they have a long dramatic history fighting with other agencies and not exactly a good rep dealing with the workers who worked with them) but that a TER moderator was reveled to have traded good reviews for free sex of the girls who worked for them. Is that anything new? No mods try that shit all the time and are accused of it all the time though usually it’s not released in court documents for all to read what a low life asshat a TER mod can be. This one according to the state of NY also wrote bad reviews about Aphrodite Companions competitors. What a dirt bag. I hope he gets a subpoena and has to testify in court about what he did and it ruins his fucking life.
This kind of game playing with people’s lives is one of the reasons people hate to be reviewed or why they shy away from the whole review thing. Assholes like this and agencies like this that try to manipulate the situation so they can get laid for free or because making a huge amount of money off the backs of hard working sex workers just isn’t enough for them they want or need more money, a bigger house, a bigger TV whatever the fuck it is. Greed and deceit are rampant.
Fuck all those people for being so damn shady. Fuck the agency for being stupid and greedy, fuck the TER mod for being a dirt bag, fuck TER for allowing this tool to work on their site. They are culpable as well. I have a feeling these idiots will either plead out and do a few years or the whole thing will fail as it seems on pretty shaky ground if they are trying to use reviews as evidence. Or maybe this TER mod is working with the state of NY to further this bust… wouldn’t surprise me and would be the first time a TER mod flipped and worked with the police. That site is toxic.
City Vibe was a major player in the escort advertising world. You could get a big glossy ad in any major city in the US and even some not so major ones. They had some kinda link exchange deal with the big national review website, yanno the one that boasts a gazillion escort reviews. If you had a profile on that site you would often find a link to your ad on Eros or some other site replaced by a link to City Vibe. When I started touring, City Vibe would often give me a free ad in what ever city I was traveling to. I didn’t ask for this ad they would just do it and somehow they knew where I was traveling to. They would call me every once in a while and ask me to advertise with them often giving out great deals and every once in a while I would bite, hoping they could bring me more work but it never seemed to play out that way. Eros was the big player and City Vibe didn’t net me more business and why spend hundreds on an ad that didn’t perform. I didn’t. Other people did though, some big named girls always had ads up on City Vibe. I’m guessing it worked for them or they wouldn’t spend the cash. It just never did for me.
Did i accedently click on Backpage?
I promptly forgot about them (and their free ads) when I stopped touring. Until the other day. It started on Twitter when a friend who was a regular City Vibe advertiser was having a fit about some redesign changes. Apparently City Vibe was now adopting the look and feel on their front pages of Backpage. You’d have to dig for the escort ads among the long list of items for sale like clocks and dressers. Once you did find this escort sites escort ads, you find that they are heavily pushing their new VIP ads, which look strangely familiar. Upon a little further inspection they also seem to have their own “review” site attached. Cuz what they world needs is more “review” sites, especially one that is almost an exact duplicate of that national review site they used to be partnered with. It’s weird to see such a long established site have such an obvious identity crisis.
Its like a scavenger hunt to find the escorts
Skip ahead a week and its all over my twitter stream City Vibe is being sued. Sued? Yup Sued! I was able to find the legal complaint that was filed (it was easy to find) and it turns out City Vibe isn’t being sued by that review site they took the whole review model from, or Backpage whose concept they are appropriating but they are being sued by Slixa for copying the look and feel of their VIP ads. Slixa is an upstart escort advertising site that’s been hitting the ground running and earning a lot of good will in the escort world. Its a splashy new site and when I first saw them, thought that they were positioning themselves to take on Eros. Trying to be in direct competition with the most high end of all the escort advertising venues. I thought good for them, there needs to be more options for escorts. They have a unique look and feel and do a few things Eros doesn’t that I personally think makes them appealing to escorts, like not doing traffic trades or having links on their site that go off to cam girls or porn sites. Escorts like that cuz when you pay the big bucks you don’t want to give away your eye balls.
As I’ve long stated my background is in advertising, more specifically art direction. That’s what I went to college for. So my first thought was really suing over a design? Is that even possible? Then I did the compare and contrast and its clear to me that City Vibe is directly copying Slixa’s VIP pages. To the smallest of details. Seems City Vibe doesn’t have an original thought in their head. Maybe they think they need to swipe ideas from everyone else to be competitive, or maybe their art department is lazy or …who knows the why of it all. I’m no legal expert so who knows if Slixa will be successful in court (a jury trial was demanded in the filing) But to an ex art directer with some knowledge in aping other peoples work and making it your own I can say with confidence that City Vibe didn’t even try to modify they just out right aped. I don’t understand that business model. Sex workers are always trying to be unique to try to find a way to stand out from a crowd. That’s why I always advise people to find their best feature and whats special about them no matter what that is and play that up. City Vibe might do well to take the same advice and try to stand out instead of trying to blend in by swiping everyone else’s business models and looks. They been around a long time, are well established and its strange to see this implosion and to watch them self destruct. I wouldn’t be surprised to see them just disappear one day or maybe hear though the grapevine that they are up for sale.
Escorts need more options for advertising not less and more then that, they need GOOD options not cookie cutter slapped together miss mashes of other sites. I hope City Vibe pulls themselves together and once again becomes a real option for escorts and their advertising needs but I’m not holding my breath.
Full disclosure I am a contract writer for Slixa but in this blog… all my thoughts are my own!
Reviews, reviews, reviews.. It’s all the rage to rage against reviews. Ok, I get it they are problematic but lets not forget that potential clients sometimes read them and use them when choosing an escort to see. We don’t have to like that but it is a fact. Lets also not forget that as much as we may not be comfortable with reviews raging on men who use them from the ultra obsessive reviewer to the casual reader just makes us look like the crazy ones. I’m serious and I know that seems strange coming from me. The chick who in the last decade went to war with review culture and put my money where my mouth was by putting my actual working name on it. However there’s a huge difference between shining a light on review culture, how it affects an escorts business and especially how it makes someone feel to be reviewed in a straight forth manor and being a raging cunt to every man who’s ever read a review and had the unmitigated nerve to say so.
Reviews are currently being hotly debate over on that collective sex worker blog that’s “One Big Service Piece” people are raging and people are being thoughtful and many people adding their 2 cents to the conversation. I do see a theme though, if any man has an opinion or wants to participate in the conversation be he sending in a email in response to a call for entries or just simply posting a “Hey I never thought of it this way before” comment on a blog post he will get demeaned and belittled. Clearly there are sex workers who can not see beyond their own need to feel slighted, insulted or whatever their personal issue is (it feels and looks personal) to see that maybe, just maybe some client thoughts and perspectives might be insightful, useful or at the very least good to know.
Sex workers are only half of the equation …. sex workers need clients to yanno actually work and if you are such a raging cunt that you cant take a breath before you unleash your pent up anger and furry on some dude who’s just trying to be part of the conversation and may actually be agreeing with you. Well then maybe you need to go into actual therapy. Men are not the enemy, clients are not the enemy. Yes, there is much change that could happen that would improve the lives of sex workers, but feeding into the stereotype that we are all just man hating cunts out to take their money and don’t really give a flying fuck about them, in my humble opinion not the best way to go about making any kind of change. Speak your mind, tell your truth but if your truth is all “fuck you, I hate you” then maybe you need a new line of work
