You’d think it would be easier

I’ve given up trying to deal with third parties when it comes to hosting my video promo clips. YouTube thinks my tongue is “adult” and actively goes after any of the fetish girls posting non adult material which is compliant with their TOS.  I’ve been deleted off that site so many times I cant keep count. Vimeo and I got into it last year when they decided i couldn’t link to any of my websites (including this blog even though other users link to their self promotion blogs) and told me i couldn’t watermark my videos with anything that would direct any Vimeo viewer  to any of my sites where i then in turned linked to a clip site. Yes, Vimeo is trying to police several links out and also actively goes after any fetish people to try to harass them into not using their site buy giving them special rules that dont apply to other users of Vimeo. WTF! (I now watermark with my Twitter fr them, cuz they suck ass)

Fetish people are often targeted even though so much of our content is R-rated at best. My theory is because we confuse and upset people. Yes, me talking about my shoes isn’t adult content and there are video after video on these sites with women talking about shoes showing off shoes and the like but if I’m aware and make it known that i’m aware that my viewer gets a rock hard cock at me talking about my shoes then well…. DELETE HER! Even though my videos comply with their terms of service. It happens to us all and I’ve given up trying to use those sites for any kind of traffic generating device, they just delete me or make me spend hours justifying my content and fighting with them.

I’ve been trying to figure out how to host my own content on my own sites where I can embed a payer into the actual post. Its harder then you think. You can upload but embedding though a player well that’s hard. Right now i’m using a plug in just discovered but I had to convert my content to a .flv file and i’m pretty sure that means flash which means you iphone/ipad users cant see squat (sorry guys). So Its not a perfect solution but i’m not done trying to find a better one.

Until then… enjoy my Fluevogs…

Dont worry little lady

Next… Billboards!
Advertising is always tricky when you’re a sex worker. When I was escorting it was a monthly headache to figure out which sites to give my very hard earned cash to. Always trying to get the most bang for your advertising buck. Escort advertising is veryexpensive, it can be cost prohibitive and you have to be smart about it. No one wants to spend hundreds of dollars every month for no return and though no website can guarantee you business, they can give you an idea of their traffic stats to help you make an informed decision.

Now that most of my advertising is aimed at my fetish clip business, I’m always looking for new ways and places to branch out and put myself and my fetish product in front of new audiences. My advertising budget every month is small, I’m an indie clip and femdom hypnosis recording  producer who makes enough money to pay all my bills and my bills include food and board for my 4 year old ex racehorse.  I do alright though I wouldn’t say I’m rolling in it like some of my peers who specialize in financial domination, those ladies clean up! I started to look at new places to advertise last week and shot off a few emails to a few websites asking for information. Pricing structures, traffic stats, the typical info you would need to start making a decision. Choosing an untried place to buy ads is always stressful because there’s a good chance it will not pay off in any meaningful way. There is always trial and error involved.  I like to do a cost benefit analysis and lay out some expectations for myself  when making a decision on where to spend my ad cash. I come from the very real world of cutthroat advertising, but even if I didn’t have a background in advertising its business 101 and though I do have a bod for sin, I also have a brain for business.

Why is it websites insist on treating you like you are just some dumb girl who shouldn’t worry her pretty little head over things like potential impressions and traffic expectations? I find it more frequent with fetish directed websites than adult sites in general. Maybe its because adult in general is big  business in this world so if yo hit up an ad sales manager for a major adult website they are more then happy to ply you with loads of information to try to get you to chose them to give your money to. Not so much with fetish driven sites, getting info is like pulling teeth and it usually comes with a big helping of attitude. Its a pet peeve of mine, not because I’m a Dominatrix and I think the world should respect me for my existence but because I’m a business person who is trying to make smart decisions. Just like the dudes over a Goldman Sachs and the dudes in Atlanta trying to sell the world  a Coke© I’m no different just on a much smaller scale.  Maybe someday people will understand that just because it’s the sex business and I’m in it doesn’t mean I’m a dumb broad who is a mark to be taken advantage of. When that kind of attitude comes from a support service it reinforces that as long as we’ve come there still so much further to go. So I march on. Hearts and minds people … hearts and minds.

The tortoise not the hare

I’m slowly but steadily (yanno like the tortoise) adding all my clips to my fetish clips own site. Every day a few more are being added, little by little. In addition of course to my femdom erotic hypnosis Mp3’s (hot sellers they are) So make sure to check out my very on fetish clip site where you can purchase gems like “jerk off to my tits” oh what a masterpiece!

You know you wanna….

Clip Sites And The Implied Deal

Quiet on the set
If you’re selling your content be it porn or fetish content and if your selling it though a clip site then you are not making 100% on your work. There is an implied deal with the clip site you are selling your content though. You give of X percentage of your profits in exchange for X services from the clip site. So what are those X’s you are giving up and getting. Let me break it down.

You can give up, up to 40% of your sales, I’ve even heard tell of some sites wanting more then that. In exchange you get a platform to sell your content, all the payment processing by the clips site and they host your content for sale. Okay lets break this down a little further.

A Platform: it’s a great thing. They have customers, you want customers a win/win right? Wrong, not all clip sites have customers. Several (you know who you are Kinkbomb) have a website but they don’t have any traffic to speak of. So though you have a place to sell your content, if the clip studio isn’t bringing traffic to the table then really its like selling your content in a consignment shop in a part of town no one goes to.

Payment Processing: Hooray for someone else doing the payment processing. It’s not easy for adult business to get merchant accounts and i know that sounds strange considering how much business is done in the adult content realm but its true. So a clip site will handle your payment processing, do the accounting and send you a check at the end of the month for your “commission” on your sales. That too is a great thing and it sure sounds like its worth giving up a portion of your profits to have someone else handle that aspect and its is.. it is unless they are inundated with charge backs and fraud reports and then pass those costs on to you or maybe just saying they are getting them so they can skim off your earnings. It happens more then you think.

Hosting content for sale: someones gotta host it because it has to be available for download sale. This is the one thing that almost all of the clip sites get right. Unless they have a server melt down or something and then you have to start from scratch with a site. On the plus side ive only heard of this happening once. (couch, couch, kinkbomb, cough, cough)

Those those are the things you get from any clip site and what you give up is up to and likely 40%  of your sales. Think about it… 40% thats a lot of scratch to give up. You sell a video for 10 bucks you are only getting $6.00 sell 50 of them instead of making 500.00 you make 300.00. So in exchange for that you want to get the best deal you can and make sure the sites you are selling though are holding up their end of the implied and sometimes not so implied bargain. A clip site can give you 70% of your sales but if they have no customers for you to sell to, 70% of nothing is still nothing.

So let me break down sites I’ve had personal experience with:

Clips4Sale: By far the site with the most traffic, a large operation with a solid reputation and an actual team of people. They earn their 40% of sales by bringing customers to the table, they process all payments and you get a check every month like fucking clock work.  Since they are the biggest of the sites they also do a fair amount of promoting and will even send out the occasional email to their studios giving them ideas on how to increase sales.  I have no complaints. If you work hard and use all the site features it pays off plain and simple.

Clippette: In business just about a year Clippette is almost all fetish driven content and its run by fetish people. It’s a smaller site and therefore not a far reaching but their customers are targeted. If you’re a stockings, foot or hypnosis fetish person you’re likely going to be checking out Clippette. Also being a smaller site the customer service with these guys is impeccable. They not only are right on top of any issues from technical to administrative but they do fun promotions and take feedback like a champ. Ive seen them implement several suggestions i personally made which resulted in increased sales. Love that!

Kinkbomb: Yeah, I’ve written about them before and I did remove all my content from them. They have been in business about a year. Its about 4 guys who run it and the president is the boyfriend of a top selling online Domme. It’s rumored that her and her friends get 80-100% on their payouts hence them not having any issues diverting their customers from Clips4sale to Kinkbomb where they make more on each sale. However Kinkbomb has very low traffic and is plagued with “charge backs” be they real (because words gotten out amongst customers that a charge back with Kinkbomb is a given) or made up as to make up for costs from the smaller studios because the cut is so big on the larger selling ones, who knows. My personal experience sucked, maybe you’ll have better luck… ha, as if.

Clipvia: Another side project of a couple of guys who have day jobs. Clipvia will pay out 70% to studios which is great. Sadly though they have very little traffic and 70% of nothing is still nothing.  Since it’s two guys with day jobs the customer service is sucky and they handle issues with a often broken 3rd party application and not by email (Really?)  Though I think this guys intentions are in the right place clearly he doesn’t have the time to dedicate to growing a start up.

Eclips: Also a new site just over a year old. This ones got a strange interface for uploading your content and they have been plagued with merchant account issues. The owner is really very sweet and all my interactions with him have been great, i only wish they had any traffic… at all. No traffic means no sales.

The real bottom line
Here’s the bottom line a clip site needs to host the content, process the payment and bring customers to the table. Having a decent interface and good customer service is always a good thing. If your clip site is lacking in any of those areas then maybe its time to reassess them and how much effort you are putting into it. If you are driving all the traffic to your sales then maybe you need to open your own site, which by the way will net you about 90% of your profits. Which I myself have done and i couldn’t be happier about it. I still sell on Clips4sale and Clippette and have my studio loaded with content on Eclips (come on little engine you can do it) but I’ve removed content from Kinkbomb awaiting documentation of mystery charge backs  and Clipvia for having some super sucky customer service. No need in investing time and effort into sites that don’t pay off, or don’t appreciate you as studio partner or who out right steal from you. Find the good ones and work hard to make those pay off.

Update: 10/4/2017

Clippette shut down after losing their payment processor. Clipvia shut down after ripping off all thier studios and not paying them, Eclips disappeared one day. Kinkbomb andClips4Sale are still alive and kicking.

Why I removed all my content from Kinkbomb and why they suck

shady shady shady
I’ve been selling my content on Kinkbomb for over a year. For those of you who don’t know who they are they are a fairly new clip site  with “offices” based out of Las Vegas. They call themselves “Kinkbomb Media Group” But I’m pretty sure it’s about 4 people. I’ve had personal contact with 3 of them. A nameless, Customer service rep, A tech support guy and the President who’s said his name was Joshua.

When I registered to sell content with them there were only a handful of store up and operational and it was easy for me to quickly become a top content provider. I spent 3 solid months of driving traffic, adding links and promoting my content on their site. Kinkbomb takes 40% of my sales and for that they process the transactions, host the content and provide traffic or what I like to call “eyeballs” The more people who see your stuff the more likely you will make sales. I give up 40% of my earnings for those services. After 3 months I didn’t see my sales increase by much, they hovered in the barely getting a check range and I decided to put my efforts into my other clip stores. Especially after getting my analytics results and doing some analysis. I was driving a hefty portion of my traffic, in fact I was driving most of it. So Kinkbomb was making 40% of my sales for payment processing and hosting my content for sale. That for those of you who don’t know is outrageous. If Kinkbomb was providing traffic and i was still not making any increasing sales well, that’s on me. Kinkbomb was not bringing eyeballs to the table so i basically did the bare minimum moving forward and put my efforts into marketing and promoting my stores other sites.

Flash ahead to a few months ago when Kinkbomb servers failed. Almost all my content was lost, how did I find out about this huge problem? I stopped making sales and spent some time asking around until I found out that Kinkbomb had a huge server failing and that many stores were effected. I went from being the number 3 or 4 content provider to being off the list. Kinkbbomb eventually sent out a mass email to its stores informing them that their content might be affected with a promise that eventually it would be fixed to be patient etc, etc… Not an email telling me directly how I was effected and what steps they were taking and what steps I would need to take to correct or compensate for the issue. I had to follow up with that after several days of Kinkbomb tweets asking for their stores patience and some emails informing that it would be rectified soon.

It wasn’t, most of my content was lost. It needed to be uploaded again, descriptions added, pricing information added, keywords added, animated gifs added, it was a mess. KB’s tech guy was helpful and i mass uploaded all the content I had easily accessible since most was on back up drives and needed to be searched out. I spent a fair amount of time uploading my content to which KB told me they could eternally reinstate the other info. Yay! Only it was bullshit i found that out a month later when all my best selling content, my hypnosis mp3s were in the server but not listed for sale. I had to by hand add those to my store for sale. So much for kinkbomb doing the linking. How did I find that out… no sales, then investigation. Which was becoming a pattern for Kinkbomb

Okay I get it shit happens and it was a huge pain in the ass and Kinkbomb handled the situation really badly. A sever melt down is a huge deal and causes work for everyone. Kinkbomb’s lack of personal attention and having what appeared to be a piece mail solution thrown together only as needs arose and studios complained and as after thoughts didn’t help. But I was able to get a quarter of my content back up for sale and put Kinkbomb out of my mind and got to work on other sites and life was almost back to normal with them…

Then the unthinkable happened…

I got an email informing me that Kinkbomb had over paid me due to an accounting error on their part and a “new” accounting system they went on to say they would be docking my current drop. They gave me blanket numbers and did not provide any documentation. A day later my deposit was docked. I then did my own accounting based on my sales emails and found sadly, not to my surprise that my numbers and Kinkbomb’s numbers did not match. I provided Kinkbomb with this information including transaction numbers and asked that the difference be direct deposited to me that day.

Email one: Customer service then told me that 3 of my sales were “incomplete” sales and that the “system” had sent out the emails too soon. That glitch was being corrected.

Email two: Customer service then said that according to “finance” 2 of those sales were charge backs and that one was just refunded no reason given.

That’s when I saw red. Let me be clear we are NOT talking about a lot of money were talking a few bucks. I responded requesting documentation of the two charge backs and a reason for the third and i asked a lot of questions. If in fact the sales were charge backs why did they say they were incomplete sales? what steps were they taking to block the buyer? What investigation was done for these charge backs? how could a trust them with so much conflicting information? and so on and so on. I was not a happy camper and i felt like kinkbomb was being either shady or plain old  incompetent and i let that be known.

Email three from the president of Kinkbomb media: giving me a “charge back” lesson explaining to me what a charge back was and the general process with no information pertaining to my specific “charge backs”  NO answer to any of my questions and none of the supporting data I asked for. I had explained to kinkbomb in my previous email that they have used up their  good will and that i could no longer excuse their business practice they needed to provide me proof of the situation. The email i received from the president of kinkbomb was condescending in tone,  especially where he got to the part where he touted Kinkkbomb as being “tops” in the industry “bar none” he had the balls to tell me that after their server melted down, after they docked my deposits before even letting me know there was a possible issue, with bringing under 500 eyeballs to my store a month  and with extreme lack of customer relations or service. Really that’s tops? No one does better then that?  Well color me fucking surprised.

I wrote back asking the president of Kinkbomb media if he would be the one answering my questions from now on and if i would be getting the charge back documentation from him personally and i have not heard back from kinkbomb media since. Radio silence. well I get the mass emails where they tout their lame as fuck contest where they try to get the studios to promote heavier to win something lame so they don’t have to buy any actual advertising. Yeah, i got those but nothing from the president who thought it important enough to inform me what a charge back was but not important enough to actually answer my questions.

In my frustration I thought to myself how stupd can they be? Then it dawned on me its not that Kinkbomb is stupid (shady maybe) it’s that Kinkbomb thinks I’M stupid and they have been acting accordingly.  Great way to do business Kinkbomb. So I removed my content of f their servers but left my store up because IM STILL WAITING for my documentation of those supposed charge backs and I’m still waiting for a reason for the third refund and while I wait I’m not comfortable making any amount of money for Kinkbomb Media and since they have shown that they are untrustworthy I thought it better to just remove the content pending the answers I need to feel comfortable doing business with them.

I have a feeling i’ll be waiting forever, so be it as long as they can ignore me is as long as i can tell people my personal experience with them and that’s what i intend to do. People can make up their own minds and if they decide to do business with them they can take their own measures to safeguard that they aren’t being for lack of a better term ripped off.

Maybe kinkbomb should have checked me out that not unlike some of the other studios who have left them because they were unhappy with Kinkbomb that I may be a low money maker with them but my mouth is tenfold and if you wrong me I will make sure everyone knows about it …. until you make it right or when hell freezes over which ever comes first.
